Flag Raising Ceremony Highlights | January 2, 2024
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto addresses the following during the weekly flag raising ceremony:
00:01-00:19: Mayor Vico greeted everyone with a Happy New Year and wished that City Hall employees were able to enjoy and find time to rest during the holiday season. He also greeted and acknowledged the presence of City officials.
00:20-02:00: Pasig City Christmas Activities 2023
- Mayor Vico thanked the City Hall employees for their hard work during the month of December. He mentioned that December is the most eventful and, at the same time, tiring month for employees. But because of everyone’s hard work, planned activities such as the Paskotitap Float Parade, Pamaskong Handog distribution, and other activities were all successful. He then specifically thanked the Peace and Order Department for making sure that the conduct of the holiday activities were all well and safe.
- Mayor Vico thanked again all the City employees who rendered work during weekends, worked overtime, and even on holidays.
- He also mentioned the efforts of the Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) headed by Mr. Allendri Angeles. He said that SWMO was able to give reports and updates on him regarding waste collection during and after Christmas Day.
- Mayor Vico explained that December 25 and 26, and even New Year, are challenging days in waste collection given the volume of garbage from all the households in the City of Pasig. Additionally, he mentioned that waste collection in Pasig has improved a lot compared to previous years.
02:01-05:45: Peace and Order Department (POD)
- Mayor Vico commended and thanked POD for tirelessly working to keep the City of Pasig safe, even if they should be celebrating the holidays with their families.
- He then mentioned that the city’s yearly challenge is the selling and use of illegal firecrackers. Mayor Vico also mentioned that in the City of Pasig, whitewashing is not tolerated, instead, things that need to be improved are being noted and acknowledged.
- He mentioned that the lack of uniformed personnel is also one of the challenges of the city. He then acknowledged the work of the Philippine National Police — Pasig and mentioned that he would be waiting for their report on the number of firecracker-related incidents in the city.
- Mayor Vico said that in the initial report, it is obvious that the number of incidents is still substantial but not as high as the previous years. He shared that he hopes that next year, the number of incidents will become lower.
- He also said that the City Government of Pasig will assess and study if it is possible to consider the total prohibition of the use of firecrackers in the city. He then shared the challenge on this, which is the geographical location of Pasig. Being in the center of Metro Manila makes it difficult to track violators - they would just cross the street, then they will be in another local government unit already.
- Mayor Vico then again stressed that the main challenge is the lack of manpower (uniformed personnel). But considering this, he commended POD for their hard work and told them that they did a good job.
05:46-05:56: Mayor Vico thanked the City Hall employees again and told them to continue doing the right thing and refrain from doing unjust things.
05:57-06:11: To end his speech, he wished everyone an abundant, peaceful, healthy, and joyful year 2024.
